Smartlook alternatives (2026): where to go before the shutdown
Smartlook stopped selling in May 2026, closed renewals in August, and shuts down September 30, 2027, deleting remaining data. Nothing migrates your history, not even the official Splunk successor. The destinations, sorted by whether you need web, mobile, or both.

The dates and what they mean
Cisco's published schedule runs: end of sale May 31, 2026, end of renewals August 31, 2026, last day of support August 31, 2027, and platform decommissioned September 30, 2027, with remaining customer data securely deleted. Two operational details matter more than the headlines. Paid accounts whose subscriptions lapse fall back to a free plan that keeps working until the shutdown, so the product does not stop mid-contract, it degrades. And exporting what you have runs through Smartlook's Reports and Exports plus its REST API, which is worth doing early: recordings themselves do not meaningfully transfer to any other tool, but funnels, events and aggregate reports can at least be preserved as records.
The successor Cisco points to is digital experience analytics inside Splunk Observability Cloud. It is a real product, and for organisations already on Splunk it may be the shortest path. It is also sales-led with no public pricing, its own pages do not confirm the heatmap or mobile-replay features Smartlook users would be looking for, and Splunk states it will not migrate historical Smartlook data. For a small or mid-sized team that chose Smartlook for its self-serve pricing, the official path leads somewhere with a very different shape.
What you are actually replacing
Smartlook was two products in one script: web session replay with heatmaps, events and funnels, and, distinctively, mobile app replay with SDKs for iOS, Android, React Native and Flutter. The web half has a crowded field of replacements. The mobile half does not, and it is the axis that should sort your shortlist, because several popular web replay tools have no mobile app story at all.
Web and mobile, free: Microsoft Clarity
Clarity covers more of Smartlook's footprint than any other free option: web recordings and heatmaps with no traffic limits and no sampling, plus mobile SDKs for Android, iOS, React Native and Flutter. For a team leaving a product that just closed its renewals, free-forever is also insurance against this happening again on a billing cycle you depend on. The standing trades apply: recordings kept 30 days, data with Microsoft under its consent and advertising-ecosystem terms, and no funnels comparable to Smartlook's events model. The longer look is in Microsoft Clarity alternatives.
The connected one, web only: Bigdelta
For the web half of a Smartlook migration, Bigdelta replaces recordings and heatmaps and adds what Smartlook never had: the same script is a full web analytics tool, so replays arrive attached to traffic sources, campaigns and revenue, and Smartlook's events-and-funnels habit maps onto funnels that connect to money rather than standing alone. The free plan covers sites under 100,000 page views a month with up to 1,000 replays and a year of retention, paid pricing is public, and data stays on EU servers. The honest limit: Bigdelta is web only. If your Smartlook usage was the mobile SDKs, pair it with a mobile tool below or pick a single tool that spans both.
Mobile first: UXCam
If Smartlook was primarily your mobile app replay tool, UXCam is the specialist destination, with the broadest SDK coverage in the field: iOS, Android, React Native, Flutter, Xamarin and .NET MAUI, Cordova, NativeScript, plus web. The trade is commercial rather than technical: pricing is sales-led with no published free tier, so the self-serve simplicity Smartlook offered does not carry over. For app-centric product teams it is the closest like-for-like on the mobile side.
Product analytics plus replay: PostHog
PostHog is the destination for teams that used Smartlook's events and funnels seriously and want more of that. Mobile session replay is generally available across iOS, Android, React Native and Flutter, the free tier includes 5,000 recordings a month with usage-based pricing above it, and replay sits inside a full product analytics platform, events, funnels, flags, experiments. It assumes technical hands: the power is real and so is the learning curve, and a marketing team that used Smartlook casually will find Clarity or Bigdelta friendlier.
The rest of the field, briefly
Three more destinations fit narrower cases. Contentsquare, which absorbed Hotjar, offers 200,000 free sessions a month for web teams that want volume with surveys, with one-month free retention as the catch, see Hotjar alternatives. Mouseflow is a straightforward web-only swap with transparent quota rules from $25 a month, covered in Mouseflow alternatives. And OpenReplay is the self-hosted answer for data-control requirements, free on your own infrastructure, with mobile SDKs still maturing.
A migration checklist worth doing this quarter
Export before you evaluate: pull funnels, events and aggregate reports through Reports and Exports and the API while the account still works, because nothing imports them later. Instrument the replacement in parallel rather than at the deadline, since no tool inherits your history and every month of delay is a month of data the new tool never saw. And if mobile matters, test the actual SDK on your actual app before committing, SDK maturity varies more than marketing pages suggest. The general field, compared without a shutdown clock, is in best session replay tools.
